KAIROS Blanket Exercise

Developed in collaboration with Indigenous Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and educators, the KAIROS Blanket Exercise is a powerful and immersive educational workshop that offers participants a unique opportunity to delve into the history of Indigenous peoples and their interactions with colonial powers. Through a combination of storytelling, interactive activities, and discussions, the exercise sheds light on the injustices, challenges, and resilience that Indigenous communities have faced over generations.

During this workshop, you'll step onto the metaphorical "blanket," representing the lands of Indigenous peoples, and follow their journey through time. Through interactive storytelling and guided reflection, you'll gain a deeper understanding of the complex historical relationships between Indigenous communities and colonial powers. You'll witness the impact of colonization, the loss of land, and the resilience that has kept Indigenous cultures alive.

Your presence and participation will contribute to building bridges of understanding, empathy, and solidarity. The Kairos Blanket Exercise is an opportunity to listen, learn, and engage in meaningful dialogue about reconciliation and the path towards a more just and inclusive society.

No prior knowledge is needed—just an open heart and a willingness to learn. We believe that by acknowledging and honoring the past, we can collectively work towards a better future. Join us in this profound experience of understanding, healing, and growth.

Presenter: Deacon Rennie Nahanee
Deacon Rennie Nahanee is an elder from the Squamish (Skwxwú7mesh) Nation, graduated from St. Mark’s College with a Diploma in Pastoral Studies 2015, and currently working at St. Paul’s Squamish Nation Church in North Vancouver.

• KBE is suitable for teens and adults.
• KBE is required orientation for continuing into Listening to Indigenous Voices course.
